In a recent development, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has encountered a disagreement with its splinter group, PTI-Nazriati, over the use of the party’s electoral symbol in the upcoming elections. The issue arose when PTI claimed that PTI-Nazriati reneged on an agreement that allowed PTI leaders to participate in the elections using the “bat” symbol.

The dispute unfolded during a Supreme Court hearing on the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) petition challenging the Peshawar High Court’s decision to restore PTI’s electoral symbol. PTI issued directives urging anyone in possession of PTI-Nazriati tickets to submit them immediately to the ECP and high courts.

However, PTI-Nazriati’s chief, Akhtar Iqbal Dar, objected to PTI candidates presenting PTI Nazriati tickets to returning officers. Dar claimed that he was surprised by the move, as he had issued the PTI Nazriati tickets himself, which bore the symbol of a batsman. He stated that he had informed the returning officers about this.

PTI spokesperson Raoof Hasan accused Dar of holding a press conference and making false claims, likening his actions to those of former party leaders who had departed from PTI. Hasan asserted that Dar had already signed a contract and a memorandum of understanding with PTI, and all the PTI Nazriati tickets carried his signatures.

Amidst the dispute, PTI leader Shoaib Shaheen submitted a plea to the ECP, requesting the electoral watchdog to accept the PTI Nazriati tickets awarded to candidates. However, the ECP issued a warning, stating that attempts to deceive the commission through such requests would not be tolerated. The ECP emphasized that a party’s electoral symbol should not be allotted to candidates from another party.

While the exact conditions of the agreement between PTI and PTI-Nazriati remain unclear, PTI expressed its willingness to accommodate some PTI-Nazriati candidates, hoping that their demands would be reasonable.

In summary, PTI and its splinter group PTI-Nazriati are embroiled in a dispute over the use of the “bat” symbol in the elections. The disagreement arose during a Supreme Court hearing, and both parties have made conflicting claims regarding the issuance and submission of PTI Nazriati tickets. The ECP has issued warnings against the misuse of electoral symbols and granted an extension for symbol allotment.
